“No one leaves home unless home is a mouth of a shark”-Warsan Shire. This is a reason for high numbers of refugees in Ghana.Refugees are exiles who leave their nations for settlement in other nations for security reasons. In view of Ghana’s national harmony and peaceful coexistence, it projects the nation at the receiving end of accommodating refugees.

According to a report by UNHCR in 2014, there are 20,970 refugees and asylum seekers in Ghana. But the question is have the expectations of these refugees been met?
An observation in the urban areas and inner cities of the various regions revealed that there are more refugees on the streets who are trapped in paupery and have little room to make a living. These refugees in question could be found at Kwame Nkrumah interchange,Lapaz,Accra Central,Tamale,Madina and Kaneshie.
Insecurity  and lack of education are the common causes of social vices in the country and the world at large not forgetting to highlight the threats of poverty to building an effective society.
So long as the laws of Ghana are binding and the modes of citizenship have not been altered yet ,it gives room for children born in Ghana by Refugees to be called Ghanaian's.It also gives room for refugees who marry Ghanaian's to aquie citizenship. This is a wake up call to the central Government to also take into account the needs of refugees in the country and amend the Ghana Refugee Act 1992 to start treating refugees as humane  and more Ghanaian under the umbrella of globalization and accord them the needed privileges and opportunities.
It is time were all young refugees are put into school and driven from the fate of streetism. It is time where all refugees are provided with a number of social intervention policies. With this the activities and projects by previous stakeholders cannot be undermined. However, like Oliver Twist, the refugees would want to have more of their support .
